Science is a huge focus in my fifth grade classroom. Teaching science not only increases scientific knowledge for my students, but also helps them think critically and observe precisely. These skills help them in reading, writing, math, and every other subject! I love to engage students with hands-on learning experiences. The items I am requesting will help to engage and deepen scientific understanding. For example, students will be able to visually see how heat rises with the convection of gas apparatus. They will be able to visually see what happens to the Earth's crust as the plates move with the landforms demonstration kit. They will be able to use compasses to see how a magnetic field lines up with a compass. They will use density blocks to explore the density of objects with the same volume. They will also use probing matter card games, a slinky, and a hot plate to explore scientific concepts. This will make concepts so much easier to understand and remember! Engagement of students is huge in getting them to understand science and think critically. The materials I am requesting will be used to create games and learning experiences that they won't forget. We will use led flashlights, doublesix dominoes, and wooden stacking board games building blocks to have enriching and rigorous activities to further our knowledge in science and all subjects. We will use portable black lights and black light tubes, high visibility neon safety vests, neon gaffer tape and glow sticks to do glow games in the dark to not only help us learn information, but also to have an experience we won't forget and help us remember all the awesome information we are learning!
